In 1943, Strome Galloway was posted to North Africa to serve with the London Irish Rifles in the campaign against Rommel. He faithfully kept almost daily diary entries that form an engaging mixture of lucid journalism and pertinent anecdotes. To this, he also adds his biting comments on war, superior officers, the Allied and German armies. His account of military engagements are tempered by glimpses into the colourful life of soldiers on the North African front.
